Our home for the rest of the trip.. <a href="http://www.auberge-carcajou.com/">Auberge Carcajou</a>, we arrived in time to get unpacked and have an early lunch before we headed out for the afternoon. This spot is fantastic if you don't want to bring your atv's, or don't have any.. they have rentals and guides available to make your trip that much easier! Charles was our fearless leader for the day and we headed out behind him not sure what to expect!<br /><br /><div><embed style="WIDTH: 400px; HEIGHT: 320px" name="flashticker" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" align="middle" src="http://widget-4d.slide.com/widgets/slideticker.swf" quality="high" scale="noscale" salign="l" wmode="transparent" flashvars="cy=bb&il=1&channel=3026418949621325901&site=widget-4d.slide.com"></embed><br /><br /><div style="TEXT-ALIGN: left; WIDTH: 400px"><a href="http://www.slide.com/pivot?cy=bb&at=un&id=3026418949621325901&map=1" target="_blank"><img border="0" src="http://widget-4d.slide.com/p1/3026418949621325901/bb_t000_v000_s0un_f00/images/xslide1.gif" /></a> <a href="http://www.slide.com/pivot?cy=bb&at=un&id=3026418949621325901&map=2" target="_blank"><img border="0" src="http://widget-4d.slide.com/p2/3026418949621325901/bb_t000_v000_s0un_f00/images/xslide2.gif" /></a> <a href="http://www.slide.com/pivot?cy=bb&at=un&id=3026418949621325901&map=F" target="_blank"><img border="0" src="http://widget-4d.slide.com/p4/3026418949621325901/bb_t000_v000_s0un_f00/images/xslide42.gif" /></a></div></div><br />We were able to convince Nancy that she should come along with us again today.. HOWEVER not as a passenger....! ERRR yesterday would have been better trails for a beginer.. but boy she didn't hold us back and she even got thru a lot of mud and muck!!! Best yet she's alive and enjoyed it!! Maybe this winter we'll get her on her own snowmobile!! ???<br /><br />This area, know as the Saguenay & fjords, has some very hilly terrain.. ok yes they are mountains! the local club was even out in full force with a backhoe cleaning up the trail. Our destination was a look out.. wayyyyyy up, this riding was awesome! Really bumpy and some very steep sections.. I was smiling.... the entire ride.. i think maybe nancy was cringing and clenching her jaw... but the view from the top was well worth it!!<br /><br /><div><embed style="WIDTH: 400px; HEIGHT: 320px" name="flashticker" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" align="middle" src="http://widget-e2.slide.com/widgets/slideticker.swf" quality="high" scale="noscale" salign="l" wmode="transparent" flashvars="cy=bb&il=1&channel=3026418949621327330&site=widget-e2.slide.com"></embed><br /><br /><div style="TEXT-ALIGN: left; WIDTH: 400px"><a href="http://www.slide.com/pivot?cy=bb&at=un&id=3026418949621327330&map=1" target="_blank"><img border="0" src="http://widget-e2.slide.com/p1/3026418949621327330/bb_t000_v000_s0un_f00/images/xslide1.gif" /></a> <a href="http://www.slide.com/pivot?cy=bb&at=un&id=3026418949621327330&map=2" target="_blank"><img border="0" src="http://widget-e2.slide.com/p2/3026418949621327330/bb_t000_v000_s0un_f00/images/xslide2.gif" /></a> <a href="http://www.slide.com/pivot?cy=bb&at=un&id=3026418949621327330&map=F" target="_blank"><img border="0" src="http://widget-e2.slide.com/p4/3026418949621327330/bb_t000_v000_s0un_f00/images/xslide42.gif" /></a></div>Err now to come down.. we just kept enticing Nancy with what Emy had created for dinner... All I could think about was how fantastic lunch was... (ok i'm actually salivating thinking about what we had for dinner) This gal can cook! everything is fresh from the area and a lot of it is even on site! There was Lamb, Salmon and chicken to choose from.. I guess I was asking too much for one of each! I have had a few meals at 5 star locations... this is right up there with them.. a nice homey atmosphere with brand new rooms.. Mark my word this is going to be the "spot" to go!</div><br /><br /><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_4b_RB6SP-To/SprPaATu4-I/AAAAAAAAAg0/_wBSCLm_yXA/s1600-h/DSC07538.JPG"><img style="WIDTH: 320px; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5375837150886421474" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_4b_RB6SP-To/SprPaATu4-I/AAAAAAAAAg0/_wBSCLm_yXA/s320/DSC07538.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_4b_RB6SP-To/SprPZhlAc1I/AAAAAAAAAgs/y28AzrJ6q64/s1600-h/DSC07533.JPG"><img style="WIDTH: 320px; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5375837142637376338" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_4b_RB6SP-To/SprPZhlAc1I/AAAAAAAAAgs/y28AzrJ6q64/s320/DSC07533.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_4b_RB6SP-To/SprPZUZGA-I/AAAAAAAAAgk/u856FdK-wjg/s1600-h/DSC07531.JPG"><img style="WIDTH: 320px; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5375837139097748450" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_4b_RB6SP-To/SprPZUZGA-I/AAAAAAAAAgk/u856FdK-wjg/s320/DSC07531.JPG" /></a><br />><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_4b_RB6SP-To/SprPYz9389I/AAAAAAAAAgc/oWj11pygwPw/s1600-h/DSC07526.JPG"><img style="WIDTH: 320px; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5375837130393646034" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_4b_RB6SP-To/SprPYz9389I/AAAAAAAAAgc/oWj11pygwPw/s320/DSC07526.JPG" /></a>Taerahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14144189982989428274noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7898247681248320100.post-28511803211002860062009-08-04T05:34:00.000-07:002009-08-14T04:43:31.840-07:00Quebec! Saguenay Lac St. Jean...I searched out this location in the winter.. for my first ride.. why? Because the snow falls early there and leaves late.. it's also well known for the trail system and hospitality.. After visiting <a href="http://www.saguenaylacsaintjean.ca/">Saguenay Lac-St- Jean</a>, <a href="http://www.bonjourquebec.com/qc-en/saguenaylacstjean0.html">Quebec</a>.. I knew I had to go back!!! and with miles and miles of interconnecting ATV trails and outstanding hospitality it was a win win situation for me! Most of my trips have been ride, ride, ride.... this time we took it easy, I think people were feeling a little bit guilty making me ride while pregnant... Doctor said it was ok..I ride! to quote him, " no big doubles,no jumps, keep all 4 wheels on the ground not upside down." so that's what i have been doing. :) So when Nancy Donnelly ( of <a href="http://www.saguenaylacsaintjean.ca/">tourisme Saguenay-Lac St Jean</a>) sent me our itin.. i was blown away! This was not only going to be a riding trip but we were going to be able to see some really neat locations AND FOOD!!! Blueberry season time!<br /><br /><embed style="WIDTH: 400px; HEIGHT: 320px" name="flashticker" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" align="middle" src="http://widget-19.slide.com/widgets/slideticker.swf" quality="high" scale="noscale" salign="l" wmode="transparent" flashvars="cy=bb&il=1&channel=3026418949619714073&site=widget-19.slide.com"></embed><br /><div style="TEXT-ALIGN: left; WIDTH: 400px"><a href="http://www.slide.com/pivot?cy=bb&at=un&id=3026418949619714073&map=1" target="_blank"><img border="0" src="http://widget-19.slide.com/p1/3026418949619714073/bb_t000_v000_s0un_f00/images/xslide1.gif" /></a> <a href="http://www.slide.com/pivot?cy=bb&at=un&id=3026418949619714073&map=2" target="_blank"><img border="0" src="http://widget-19.slide.com/p2/3026418949619714073/bb_t000_v000_s0un_f00/images/xslide2.gif" /></a> <a href="http://www.slide.com/pivot?cy=bb&at=un&id=3026418949619714073&map=F" target="_blank"><img border="0" src="http://widget-19.slide.com/p4/3026418949619714073/bb_t000_v000_s0un_f00/images/xslide42.gif" /></a></div><br /><br /><br />So I must do a shout out to all the riders we had on our first day.. Marcel Lachance, our guide- <a href="http://vttroberval.iquebec.com/">club VTT amis du lac </a>,Yvon & Aline Lajoi, Gino Morin, Gustove Gagnon, Lina Asselin, Gaetan &Alain Boutin. We had a fantastic day with all of you and so much fun!(p.s. aucun bébé encore! seulement 11 semaines pour aller!!)<br />Day 1<br />Our first day we left from <a href="http://www.gpspleinair.com/pleinair/carte_fqcq.html">Roberval</a> <a href="http://www.bonjourquebec.com/qc-en/saguenaylacstjean0.html">Quebec</a>, right from our hotel- <a href="http://www.chateau-roberval.qc.ca/">Chateau Roberval</a>. This hotel had just about everything under it's roof! And it was really busy! A great location for families, pool, hot tub, pub, restaurant and fantastic food! But for us.. ooo very convinient to drop the truck and trailer and ride right from the back parking lot!!!!<br /><br /><p>So off those ATV's came and onto the trails we headed.. first stop.. Les "petit" chutes.. right near one of the many "bleuetiere's" BLUEBERRY FIELDS!!! YUUUMMY! Did you know that So-called "wild" (lowbush) blueberries, smaller than cultivated highbush ones, are prized for their intense color. The <a class="mw-redirect" title="Lowbush blueberry" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lowbush_blueberry">lowbush blueberry</a>, V. angustifolium, is found from the Atlantic provinces westward to Quebec and southward to Michigan and West Virginia. In some areas, it produces natural blueberry barrens, where it is the dominant species covering large areas.Canadian exports of blueberries in 2007 were $323 million, the largest fruit crop produced nationally, occupying more than half of all Canadian fruit acreage.<a title="Quebec" href="http://www.bonjourquebec.com/qc-en/saguenaylacstjean0.html">Quebec</a> produces a large quantity of wild blueberries, especially in the regions of <a title="Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean" href="http://www.saguenaylacsaintjean.ca/">Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean</a> (where a popular name for inhabitants of the regions is Bleuets, or "blueberries"), and Côte-Nord which together provide 40% of <a title="Quebec" href="http://www.bonjourquebec.com/qc-en/saguenaylacstjean0.html">Quebec</a>'s total provincial production. Due in part to declining frequency and intensity of spring frosts, Quebec's wild blueberry production (27 million kg in 2008) now rivals that of Maine!<br /></p><p></p><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 300px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5369778086835304386" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_4b_RB6SP-To/SoVIuDx-t8I/AAAAAAAAAfc/Pq5qeguqPNA/s400/DSC07401.JPG" /><br /><p>Talk about a lot of Blueberries!!! So when we finally snuck our fill and had finished our little snack snack along the trails.. we jumped back on the ATV's and headed to see where the little chutes went to..thank goodness for that snack of blueberries.. the distance between food/ rest stops is long!In a good way!!! Lots of great trails and really diverse. Along the way to the "Big chutes"we rode beside blueberry fields with sandy terrain, and then through forest, tall magnificent pines. When we arrived at the big chutes, we were all quite warm.. ready to jump in! but these were fast moving rapids.. we all got close enough to feel the nice cool mist off of them... lunch anyone!?</p>Lunch stop was scheduled a short ride away at "<a href="http://www.lesgrandsjardinsdenormandin.com/">les Jardins de Normandin"</a> . A gorgeous spot to stop and walk around... really get to appreciate someone else's fruits of labour!<br /><embed style="WIDTH: 400px; HEIGHT: 320px" name="flashticker" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" align="middle" src="http://widget-b0.slide.com/widgets/slideticker.swf" flashvars="cy=bb&il=1&channel=3026418949619716784&site=widget-b0.slide.com" wmode="transparent" salign="l" scale="noscale" quality="high"></embed><br /><div style="TEXT-ALIGN: left; WIDTH: 400px"><a href="http://www.slide.com/pivot?cy=bb&at=un&id=3026418949619716784&map=1" target="_blank"><img border="0" src="http://widget-b0.slide.com/p1/3026418949619716784/bb_t016_v000_s0un_f00/images/xslide1.gif" /></a> <a href="http://www.slide.com/pivot?cy=bb&at=un&id=3026418949619716784&map=2" target="_blank"><img border="0" src="http://widget-b0.slide.com/p2/3026418949619716784/bb_t016_v000_s0un_f00/images/xslide2.gif" /></a> <a href="http://www.slide.com/pivot?cy=bb&at=un&id=3026418949619716784&map=F" target="_blank"><img border="0" src="http://widget-b0.slide.com/p4/3026418949619716784/bb_t016_v000_s0un_f00/images/xslide42.gif" /></a></div><br /><p><br />and enjoy Doug did.. in the "potager" garden= veggie garden.. we were told EVERYTHING was edible.. uh o! look out Doug is STILL hungry! </p><p><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_4b_RB6SP-To/SoVLefgGlsI/AAAAAAAAAfk/g5WRXmt7qzo/s1600-h/IMG_0191.JPG"><img style="WIDTH: 134px; HEIGHT: 200px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5369781117933491906" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_4b_RB6SP-To/SoVLefgGlsI/AAAAAAAAAfk/g5WRXmt7qzo/s200/IMG_0191.JPG" /></a> <a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_4b_RB6SP-To/SoVLes7kqEI/AAAAAAAAAfs/794izUUsLio/s1600-h/IMG_0192.JPG"><img style="WIDTH: 200px; HEIGHT: 134px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5369781121538369602" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_4b_RB6SP-To/SoVLes7kqEI/AAAAAAAAAfs/794izUUsLio/s200/IMG_0192.JPG" /></a><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_4b_RB6SP-To/SoVLfAn6S2I/AAAAAAAAAf0/ZIJBSPNXhaI/s1600-h/IMG_0194.JPG"><img style="WIDTH: 200px; HEIGHT: 134px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5369781126824610658" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_4b_RB6SP-To/SoVLfAn6S2I/AAAAAAAAAf0/ZIJBSPNXhaI/s200/IMG_0194.JPG" /></a><br /><br />Hummmm we could be here awhile!<br /><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_4b_RB6SP-To/SoVL8rTVFQI/AAAAAAAAAf8/tE1vw9ApgvI/s1600-h/IMG_0196.JPG"><img style="WIDTH: 267px; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5369781636497216770" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_4b_RB6SP-To/SoVL8rTVFQI/AAAAAAAAAf8/tE1vw9ApgvI/s400/IMG_0196.JPG" /></a><br /><br />The ride back was spectacular!!! The trails were flat.. ok flat isn't the right word.. I would compare these trails with some railbed trails.. however... throw in some rolling hills, fields of canola, bison and other farms.. and that would be the comparison in Quebec to railbed riding.<br /><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_4b_RB6SP-To/SoVM0843S3I/AAAAAAAAAgU/I39OlJ6KFUo/s1600-h/DSC07413.JPG"><img style="WIDTH: 150px; HEIGHT: 200px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5369782603290725234" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_4b_RB6SP-To/SoVM0843S3I/AAAAAAAAAgU/I39OlJ6KFUo/s200/DSC07413.JPG" /></a> <a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_4b_RB6SP-To/SoVM0Z23VaI/AAAAAAAAAgM/Fb3Sw157lYA/s1600-h/DSC07412.JPG"><img style="WIDTH: 200px; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5369782593887098274" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_4b_RB6SP-To/SoVM0Z23VaI/AAAAAAAAAgM/Fb3Sw157lYA/s200/DSC07412.JPG" /></a> <a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_4b_RB6SP-To/SoVMz-2vLLI/AAAAAAAAAgE/R6maJ9nQzn4/s1600-h/DSC07411.JPG"><img style="WIDTH: 200px; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5369782586638806194" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_4b_RB6SP-To/SoVMz-2vLLI/AAAAAAAAAgE/R6maJ9nQzn4/s200/DSC07411.JPG" /></a><br /></p><p>Stay tuned for part two of our Quebec travels!</p>Taerahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14144189982989428274noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7898247681248320100.post-3489869996303522532009-07-30T03:55:00.000-07:002009-08-05T10:20:23.448-07:00WAWA..... WOW!Ok I will admit I have been jealous of Luke for awhile now.. 2 seasons ago on Snowtrax , he did the <a href="http://www.agawacanyontourtrain.com/content/tours/snowtrain/index.html">Snow Train </a>loop via sled... HOWEVER they have trains in the summer that run from Sault Ste. Marie, <a href="http://www.gorideontario.com/atv">Ontario</a> Canada all the way up to Hearst! And better YET you can load on your ATV, Bike, side x side and gear that you need for your trip!<br /><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_4b_RB6SP-To/SnGBQaM9qBI/AAAAAAAAAdU/IKlUMgUp8po/s1600-h/hearst_routemap.gif"><img style="WIDTH: 139px; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5364210750086555666" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_4b_RB6SP-To/SnGBQaM9qBI/AAAAAAAAAdU/IKlUMgUp8po/s320/hearst_routemap.gif" /></a>We started out at the <a href="http://www.agawacanyontourtrain.com/">Algoma Centrail Train </a>yard in Sault Ste. Marie.. now it's nothing pretty to look at, but there was lots of room for our truck and trailer, and made it so much easier to load everything on.. all but the side x side.. but that's another story, one better told by my husband and Doug around a campfire with a few beers in the cooler..<br /><br />There was so many people on the train and gear it was hard to believe we'd get everything on! After talking to a few other train goers I realized that this was the "last leg" of a trip for most.. wether they were hunting, fishing (hence why my husband is along on this trip) going into camps or all the way up to Hearst! As we rolled out of Sault STe. Marie.. we rode through the industrial part of town..and then suddenly we were out of the city.. into the wilderness.. It was so nice to be able to stretch out and talk to everyone, not jammed in a truck. We were on the cargo train.. so no lunch service, But Lori from Wawa tourism thought of everything and we had our picnic lunch on the train and then headed back to the freight cars for a better look at the scenery that was zipping by us.<br /><br /><embed style="WIDTH: 400px; HEIGHT: 320px" name="flashticker" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" align="middle" src="http://widget-95.slide.com/widgets/slideticker.swf" quality="high" scale="noscale" salign="l" wmode="transparent" flashvars="cy=bb&il=1&channel=3026418949618828181&site=widget-95.slide.com"></embed><br /><br />style="TEXT-ALIGN: left; WIDTH: 400px"><a href="http://www.slide.com/pivot?cy=bb&at=un&id=3026418949618828181&map=1" target="_blank"><img border="0" src="http://widget-95.slide.com/p1/3026418949618828181/bb_t000_v000_s0un_f00/images/xslide1.gif" /></a> <a href="http://www.slide.com/pivot?cy=bb&at=un&id=3026418949618828181&map=2" target="_blank"><img border="0" src="http://widget-95.slide.com/p2/3026418949618828181/bb_t000_v000_s0un_f00/images/xslide2.gif" /></a> <a href="http://www.slide.com/pivot?cy=bb&at=un&id=3026418949618828181&map=F" target="_blank"><img border="0" src="http://widget-95.slide.com/p4/3026418949618828181/bb_t000_v000_s0un_f00/images/xslide42.gif" /></a><br /><br /><p>Now don't get your hopes up!!! unless you are a kid with big eyes that can work someone over, or a pregnant co host of a tv show... we were able to meet the Senior locomotive engineer, Kelly Hopkins.. and Huey (sorry if it's spelled wrong!) we got an escorted walk up to the locomotive, to shoot of course! And the view from up there is amazing! You can see everything in front of you and a much better depth of field as far as how high up you are and how fast you are actually going! I have to say we were up there a little while, and for the best part of the trip I might add.. going across the trestle bridge, up to the top of the escarpment alongside the agawa canyon.. and coming DOWN 500ft so you are alongside the agawa canyon. The rest of the trip was very smooth, people getting off the train at their camps and before we knew it it was our stop.. Hawk Junction. the train ride wasn't really that long..6hrs, and we had lots to occupy ourselves with. But make sure you bring a lunch, there is no food car on this train. Meeting us at Hawk Junction were our guides, Gord and Russ Jones, of <a href="http://www.jonespowersports.com/">Jones Powersports</a>. All i know is that unloading the gear and ATV's just didn't go fast enough to get me riding!!! I'm sure that after 6hrs any trail is going to look good.. nope..these trails were amazing!!! The area doesn't have clubs.. so you are on your own.. there are tonnes of side roads, logging roads, and crown land that is used, it is really challenging! Right up our alley! HOWEVER i am certainly glad for guides!!! If you do plan on making this trip.. there are a few ppl you should contact about getting you around the trails, the <a href="http://www.jonespowersports.com/">Jones brothers</a> can point you in the right direction or <a href="http://www.bristolmotel.com/">Bristol off roading outfitters</a>, it's a great investment for a day to get you the type of riding you will want! plus some of the places they take you to.. you'd NEVER find on your own.. well you might.. but i'm not sure you'd get back out of there!!! <p></p><br /><br /><div><embed style="WIDTH: 400px; HEIGHT: 320px" name="flashticker" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" align="middle" src="http://widget-a8.slide.com/widgets/slideticker.swf" quality="high" scale="noscale" salign="l" wmode="transparent" flashvars="cy=bb&il=1&channel=3026418949618830504&site=widget-a8.slide.com"></embed> <div style="TEXT-ALIGN: left; WIDTH: 400px"><a href="http://www.slide.com/pivot?cy=bb&at=un&id=3026418949618830504&map=1" target="_blank"><img border="0" src="http://widget-a8.slide.com/p1/3026418949618830504/bb_t000_v000_s0un_f00/images/xslide1.gif" /></a> <a href="http://www.slide.com/pivot?cy=bb&at=un&id=3026418949618830504&map=2" target="_blank"><img border="0" src="http://widget-a8.slide.com/p2/3026418949618830504/bb_t000_v000_s0un_f00/images/xslide2.gif" /></a> <a href="http://www.slide.com/pivot?cy=bb&at=un&id=3026418949618830504&map=F" target="_blank"><img border="0" src="http://widget-a8.slide.com/p4/3026418949618830504/bb_t000_v000_s0un_f00/images/xslide42.gif" /></a></div></div><br /><br />Now, all that is missing from this trip is food right?? NOPE! I am fairly certain I gained at least 10lbs on this trip!!! the food was FANTASTIC! there was every type of food imaginable in Wawa.. your typical bar, burgers, fries many breakfast spots to choose from.. but the really memorable meals... our first evening we ate at <a href="http://www.bestnorthern.ca/">Best Northern..</a><br /><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_4b_RB6SP-To/SnlsPbci9JI/AAAAAAAAAeE/BC_6HL2L1xE/s1600-h/DSC07290.JPG"><img style="WIDTH: 200px; HEIGHT: 150px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5366439443309982866" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_4b_RB6SP-To/SnlsPbci9JI/AAAAAAAAAeE/BC_6HL2L1xE/s200/DSC07290.JPG" /></a><br />talk about amazing!!! And boy do they have some good trails for those ATV's! <a href="http://www.gillettrailrunners.com/">Gillet Railrunners</a> link up with many other clubs and miles of trails.<br />We were treated to some great hospitality from <a href="http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&rls=com.microsoft:en-us:IE-Address&rlz=1I7GGLL_en&ei=FFxgSqG4Gd-LtgfD7dXNDA&resnum=0&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=sleepy+hollow+motel+gillett&fb=1&split=1&view=text&latlng=9239688980951696222">Sleepy Hollow Motel</a> a big huge thanks for their warm welcome.. they have a great spot.. off the highway so it's nice and quiet, a bar right on site.. and it always seemed busy.. !<br />Our day on the trails started out with a HUGE breakfast at OJ's... Owen and Joan have been doing this for a bit.. and boy their food and portions are fantastic! Did I mention she bakes pies EVERYDAY!? no kiddin! and i'm not talking about 1 or 2 kinds.. try 8-12 different kinds daily... and yes you guessed it THey are KNOWN for the best pies in the STATE! yumm yumm! it was pretty hard dragging Doug out after he saw the banana cream pie come out.. sigh! We had work to do and trails to hit!<br /><div><embed style="WIDTH: 400px; HEIGHT: 320px" name="flashticker" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" align="middle" src="http://widget-6a.slide.com/widgets/slideticker.swf" quality="high" scale="noscale" salign="l" wmode="transparent" flashvars="cy=bb&il=1&channel=3026418949617057642&site=widget-6a.slide.com"></embed><br /><br /><div style="TEXT-ALIGN: left; WIDTH: 400px"><a href="http://www.slide.com/pivot?cy=bb&at=un&id=3026418949617057642&map=1" target="_blank"><img border="0" src="http://widget-6a.slide.com/p1/3026418949617057642/bb_t000_v000_s0un_f00/images/xslide1.gif" /></a> <a href="http://www.slide.com/pivot?cy=bb&at=un&id=3026418949617057642&map=2" target="_blank"><img border="0" src="http://widget-6a.slide.com/p2/3026418949617057642/bb_t000_v000_s0un_f00/images/xslide2.gif" /></a> <a href="http://www.slide.com/pivot?cy=bb&at=un&id=3026418949617057642&map=F" target="_blank"><img border="0" src="http://widget-6a.slide.com/p4/3026418949617057642/bb_t000_v000_s0un_f00/images/xslide42.gif" /></a></div></div><br /><p>We started off on the railbed on the way to the trestle bridge.. close to 100yrs old! and pretty high up.. yes if you look at the pics.. you can see doug way way wayyyyy down there! IT WORKS!!!!<div><div><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_4b_RB6SP-To/SkIsCM65wRI/AAAAAAAAAbA/64NtJjDEcr4/s1600-h/Master_Header_logo.gif"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 49px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5350887723609211154" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_4b_RB6SP-To/SkIsCM65wRI/AAAAAAAAAbA/64NtJjDEcr4/s400/Master_Header_logo.gif" /></a><br /><div>While visiting Maine, we were hooked up with Insect Shield clothing..what is it? it's a new technology that has converts clothing into long lasting protection against those unwanted pesky bugs!!! <img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 256px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 170px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5350888139521103714" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_4b_RB6SP-To/SkIsaaUBl2I/AAAAAAAAAbI/hQAzMJ9hKao/s400/New+2.JPG" /></div><br /><div>Now pay attention.. if you watch the show... look at some of our shoots.. that is NOT dust or black fuzzies on the camera lens.. those are BUGS and SWARMS of them... I HATE BUGS!!! I am certain that our editor will use a few of my outtakes this season, eating bugs, choking on bugs, freaking out because there are sooo many bugs... </div><br /><div>but let me get back on track....</div><br /><div>this clothing.. I was a little skeptical of.... I mean Camera Man Doug wears the stuff you shouldn't, it even eats the camera!!.. and I need some kind of protection!!! the family bug spray from off on the clothes just doesn't cut it...</div><br /><div>Well this stuff DID! Both days I rode i had on the long sleeve t' and also the bandana... i tell you... I was looking around at other people and they had swarms of bugs on them and around them... swatting them.. cursing at them... me..? I had a few buzzing around me.. but not a single BITE!!!in 4 days I did not get a bite!!!This was super exciting.. Now Maine didn't have the swarming population like we do here in Ontario.. so the real test was to come during the test rides we have done these past few weeks....I am happy to say.. I have two bug bites on my ankle.. and they are not there from test rides... from putting the dogs out!</div></div><div>the other great thing.. being pregnant you are not supposed to wear any of the sprays... this clothing is safe to wear and also great for kids!</div><div>make sure you check it out.. it comes in great styles, brands and can handle up to 70 washes!!! and if you ride with me.. well you know i need to wash my gear.. A LOT!</div><div> </div><div><a href="http://http//www.insectshield.com/CmsContent/Default.aspx">http://http://www.insectshield.com/CmsContent/Default.aspx</a></div><div> </div><div><br /><br /><br /> </div><div></div></div>Taerahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14144189982989428274noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7898247681248320100.post-59290414735474940072009-06-23T09:43:00.000-07:002009-06-24T06:26:11.105-07:00A day on the trails with Mike Holmes!<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_4b_RB6SP-To/SkESwQXZygI/AAAAAAAAAag/KBFM2xvgRzk/s1600-h/061609_Holmes.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 350px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 235px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5350578452529007106" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_4b_RB6SP-To/SkESwQXZygI/AAAAAAAAAag/KBFM2xvgRzk/s400/061609_Holmes.jpg" /></a><br /><div>WHo KNEW this guy liked mud more than he likes "making it right!"<br />any puddle, mud, dirt, grime, sand .. I was a little concerned that he doesn't get out of the office enough.. but he was definately an added bonus.. he rode behind me.. hence I had a hero on numerous mud holes.. also thanks to Mike Lester who pushed me out and took the muddy end of that!!! :) But i'm sure you can understand my concern when in this first pit stop - aka- lake .. Josh spent most of his time sideways and ruining his shoes, jeans and everything else he could.. not sure if he does his own laundry!?<br /><br /><div><embed style="WIDTH: 400px; HEIGHT: 320px" name="flashticker" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" align="middle" src="http://widget-4d.slide.com/widgets/slideticker.swf" quality="high" scale="noscale" salign="l" wmode="transparent" flashvars="cy=bb&il=1&channel=3026418949614819405&site=widget-4d.slide.com"></embed><br /><br /><br /><br /><div style="TEXT-ALIGN: left; WIDTH: 400px"><a href="http://www.slide.com/pivot?cy=bb&at=un&id=3026418949614819405&map=1" target="_blank"><img border="0" src="http://widget-4d.slide.com/p1/3026418949614819405/bb_t000_v000_s0un_f00/images/xslide1.gif" /></a> <a href="http://www.slide.com/pivot?cy=bb&at=un&id=3026418949614819405&map=2" target="_blank"><img border="0" src="http://widget-4d.slide.com/p2/3026418949614819405/bb_t000_v000_s0un_f00/images/xslide2.gif" /></a> <a href="http://www.slide.com/pivot?cy=bb&at=un&id=3026418949614819405&map=F" target="_blank"><img border="0" src="http://widget-4d.slide.com/p4/3026418949614819405/bb_t000_v000_s0un_f00/images/xslide42.gif" /></a></div></div></div><br /><br /><br /><p>so so far on the base, we had some dirt roads, the sand dunes complete with lake.. and now onto the forested areas.. with lots and lots and LOTS of mud! WOWOk Ok I use the word WOW alot!! but these trails are fantastic..!!!! they have EVERYTHING! we rode right out of Northern Outdoors on the <a href="http://www.atvmaine.org/">trails of Maine </a>that gave us some logging roads, brand new trails with trees and stumps and major challenges and some nice forrested trails... and the bugs weren't so bad!!! Our First day we were joined by Alyssa Harvey and her mom Joy! Jim from Northern outdoors was our fearless leader and lead us on a 50mile trek!<br />Did i mention we started a bit late our first day? yup! ran the truck and trailer minus one wheel up the road to a local garage to have the bearing replaced and hopefully no further damage! after the trailer was dropped off.. it was a thought in the back of my mind.. pack up and let's roll!!!<br />o wait breaky first!!! my gosh this place believes in serving you lots.. I asked for "just a few homefries" my plate was covered!! along with my eggs and crispy bacon.. yummmm!!! ooo and fresh homemade bread/toast.. i am totally in heaven!!!<br /><br /><div><embed style="WIDTH: 400px; HEIGHT: 320px" name="flashticker" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" align="middle" src="http://widget-91.slide.com/widgets/slideticker.swf" quality="high" scale="noscale" salign="l" wmode="transparent" flashvars="cy=bb&il=1&channel=3026418949614797969&site=widget-91.slide.com"></embed> <div style="TEXT-ALIGN: left; WIDTH: 400px"><a href="http://www.slide.com/pivot?cy=bb&at=un&id=3026418949614797969&map=1" target="_blank"><img border="0" src="http://widget-91.slide.com/p1/3026418949614797969/bb_t000_v000_s0un_f00/images/xslide1.gif" /></a> <a href="http://www.slide.com/pivot?cy=bb&at=un&id=3026418949614797969&map=2" target="_blank"><img border="0" src="http://widget-91.slide.com/p2/3026418949614797969/bb_t000_v000_s0un_f00/images/xslide2.gif" /></a> <a href="http://www.slide.com/pivot?cy=bb&at=un&id=3026418949614797969&map=F" target="_blank"><img border="0" src="http://widget-91.slide.com/p4/3026418949614797969/bb_t000_v000_s0un_f00/images/xslide42.gif" /></a></div></div><br /><br />We were spoiled! We even got a cabin with 3 bedrooms, full kitchen, my room had it's own bath attached.. bathtub= jacuzzi!!!by the end of this wet soggy day.. that's all i had on my mind to jump into!!!! yes it was soggy.. but we had sooo much fun!!! lunch stop was awesome. We went into Greenville. it's really neat the town opens up and allows ATV's to head thru right downtown!<br />back on the trails we headed back to <a href="http://www.northernoutdoors.com/">Northern outdoors</a>.... a little less soggy when we started out then when we arrived.....<br />it was a wet meeting when we got back to the resort and met our viewers that would be joining us on the next day's ride.. We were greeted with blue skies and no rain!!! Our plan for the day was to hit the Grand Trunk Trail.. with the Can Am group and our Guide Steve Tait... he promised us mud, water, great trails and some fun riding.. well he came through!<br /><p style="visibility:visible;"><object type="application/x-shockwave-flash" data="http://widget-81.slide.com/widgets/slideticker.swf" height="320" width="426" style="width:426px;height:320px"><param name="movie" value="http://widget-81.slide.com/widgets/slideticker.swf" /><param name="quality" value="high" /><param name="scale" value="noscale" /><param name="salign" value="l" /><param name="wmode" value="transparent"/> <param name="flashvars" value="cy=ms&il=1&channel=3026418949610010753&site=widget-81.slide.com"/></object><p style="white-space:nowrap"><a href="http://www.slide.com/pivot?cy=ms&at=un&id=3026418949610010753&map=1" target="_blank"><img src="http://widget-81.slide.com/p1/3026418949610010753/ms_t000_v000_s0un_f00/images/xslide1.gif" border="0" ismap="ismap" /></a> <a href="http://www.slide.com/pivot?cy=ms&at=un&id=3026418949610010753&map=2" target="_blank"><img src="http://widget-81.slide.com/p2/3026418949610010753/ms_t000_v000_s0un_f00/images/xslide2.gif" border="0" ismap="ismap" /></a> <a href="http://www.slide.com/pivot?cy=ms&at=un&id=3026418949610010753&map=F" target="_blank"><img src="http://widget-81.slide.com/p4/3026418949610010753/ms_t000_v000_s0un_f00/images/xslide42.gif" border="0" ismap="ismap" /></a></p></p><br /><br />We left the Foley Fairgrounds and headed south.. towards the Welcome Centre on hwy 69/ 400 and the Seguin trail. We had many different options for trails and level of difficulty.. so don't worry if it's your first time on the trails.. there will be something for you!!! Steve , our guide didn't waste anytime in getting us muddy and wet.. about 5 minutes into the ride... a long puddle was waiting for us... it didn't look too bad .. until you got INTO it , and I mean INTO it.. feet up!!! the mud/ water reached up and over the seat for most of us.. Poor Vern in the Razor... he was wet and we had hours to go.. but that's the name of the game right.? the muddier, the wetter.. the better the ride? Steve took us on trails that were easy, muddy and some pretty challenging.. did i mention mud and water??? I think steve was trying to see how muddy he could get us!!! I was really lucky to be on the Can Am Outlander Max.. nice soft ride and had all the bells and whistles.. well except something to dry me off with! The crew and I had a fantastic time.. thanks so much to all that helped on this event! now back to rocky crest to dry off !</p>Taerahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14144189982989428274noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7898247681248320100.post-55459173278720183432009-05-06T08:57:00.000-07:002009-05-06T11:40:21.755-07:00Spring Jam 2009<div><div><div><div>When Spring Jam promised DTX fun and mud.. boy o boy did they ever deliver!!! what a week end! It started for us on Friday when we participated in the Poker run... The run went right downtown Parry Sound !!! Along oastler park drive and headed right into Parry Sound to many different Sponsors! Many ATV ers take it for granted but Parry Sound opened it's doors for all of us this past week end!!! We got to see the sights, meet sponsors of the poker run and enjoy lots of other ATV ers enjoy their day!<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5332744347983447410" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 267px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_4b_RB6SP-To/SgG2uvuGhXI/AAAAAAAAAYY/ZqboJZfd7_M/s400/IMG_0005.JPG" border="0" /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5332744351114513538" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 267px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_4b_RB6SP-To/SgG2u7YmzII/AAAAAAAAAYg/dBVyH8WkQl0/s400/IMG_0010.JPG" border="0" /></div><p><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5332744355176727330" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 267px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 400px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_4b_RB6SP-To/SgG2vKhHQyI/AAAAAAAAAYo/5HgHrtaiAtc/s400/IMG_0013.JPG" border="0" />altho we didn't win the big prize for the poker run.. we did have a great time and were able to see a lot of Parry Sound. But the big draw for friday was the Rumble Ride.. This week end we decided to bring our families to experience Spring jam with us! The Rumble ride is sanctioned under different insurance so we are able to ride UTV's and have passengers... a perfect time to bring along to kids for a ride! My son Kaeden wasn't going to let me get away without putting him in the razor with me.. so after 4 men and 20 minutes later his car seat was strapped in and we were ready to go!<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5332779472498716338" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 267px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_4b_RB6SP-To/SgHWrQvH7rI/AAAAAAAAAYw/4mhReW6lMWI/s400/IMG_0017.JPG" border="0" /></p></div></div></div><br /><p><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5332779474401989554" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 267px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_4b_RB6SP-To/SgHWrX05k7I/AAAAAAAAAY4/oGUNlb99VaI/s400/IMG_0018.JPG" border="0" /></p><p>It was really a neat experience being one of over 250 participants on the ride into town... West Virginia- wild and wonderful!WOW! AMAZING! KNARLY! MUDDY! FANTASTIC!<br /><br /><br />ok just a few to get out of my system! This was my first "Official" Dirt Trax trip with the crew.. As I was packing I really wasn't sure what to expect.. I mean in all honesty. I am a true snow girl.. i love snowmobiling... we have an atv here at home.. but we use it mostly for snow removal, work, running around the fields and going to our friends cabin... was I really up for all the mud and muck!? Not to mention the trip down with the boys!<br /><br />Trip down... an early start to the day and the weather was fantastic!!! let's hope the sun follows us to West Virginia! we were about 1000km into the trip and luke had a few things to say about camera guy kyle's "stuff"...<br /><br /><iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.blogger.com/video.g?token=AD6v5dxnnlCGYZK5N4VjAxpLdYsaqiiN05KPXZaPEvJiKuXq_we-cwlmPKdXmeM4-q8D3_20IW_oiJ5pSKdtBeRaUA' class='b-hbp-video b-uploaded' frameborder='0'></iframe><br />15hours of driving with 4 stops.. o Even a Truck wash!!! it really needed it! <a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_4b_RB6SP-To/Sex9hYyJkeI/AAAAAAAAAWo/n8b4zREplVE/s1600-h/DSC06530.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5326770471814402530" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 200px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 150px" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_4b_RB6SP-To/Sex9hYyJkeI/AAAAAAAAAWo/n8b4zREplVE/s200/DSC06530.JPG" border="0" /></a><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_4b_RB6SP-To/Sex9hSZx4WI/AAAAAAAAAWw/u8AJyI89woE/s1600-h/DSC06533.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5326770470101573986" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 200px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 150px" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_4b_RB6SP-To/Sex9hSZx4WI/AAAAAAAAAWw/u8AJyI89woE/s200/DSC06533.JPG" border="0" /></a><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_4b_RB6SP-To/Sex9htV2n9I/AAAAAAAAAW4/iEpLs3pRkAk/s1600-h/DSC06532.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5326770477332864978" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 200px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 150px" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_4b_RB6SP-To/Sex9htV2n9I/AAAAAAAAAW4/iEpLs3pRkAk/s200/DSC06532.JPG" border="0" /></a><br /><br />The trip went by pretty quickly and we arrived at <a href="http://www.mtnbreezemotel.com/">The Mountain Breeze Motel </a>, complete with some cold bevvies and a firepit and rocking chairs..<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5326771514097008578" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 300px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_4b_RB6SP-To/Sex-eDlr_8I/AAAAAAAAAXA/LGRvx68an6A/s400/DSC06543.JPG" border="0" />THe next morning we were unloading our atv's and getting the breakdown of the day from Bill Reed when these two HUGE buses pulled in... and both were pulling trailers.. one open with some bikes and ATv's .. seems like this is definately the place to ride!! but who was on the bus'???<br /><p style="visibility:visible;"><object type="application/x-shockwave-flash" data="http://widget-4a.slide.com/widgets/slideticker.swf" height="320" width="426" style="width:426px;height:320px"><param name="movie" value="http://widget-4a.slide.com/widgets/slideticker.swf" /><param name="quality" value="high" /><param name="scale" value="noscale" /><param name="salign" value="l" /><param name="wmode" value="transparent"/> <param name="flashvars" value="cy=ms&il=1&channel=3026418949608694602&site=widget-4a.slide.com"/></object><p style="white-space:nowrap"><a href="http://www.slide.com/pivot?cy=ms&at=un&id=3026418949608694602&map=1" target="_blank"><img src="http://widget-4a.slide.com/p1/3026418949608694602/ms_t000_v000_s0un_f00/images/xslide1.gif" border="0" ismap="ismap" /></a><br /><br /><br />So luke, with a cheshire grin walks me over to the bus to see who it is.. I guess he and Bill had a little late night discussion and were anticipating the arrival of a couple of country singers... and the one who arrived first... Bucky Covington and his crew... you might remember him from the 2005-06 season.. both Bucky and his Twin Rocky auditioned and Bucky continued on...</p><p>Apparently these boys and their crew ride! rock on! Bill and Luke had it all planned last night.. I am ready to get this ride going!<br /></p>Taerahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14144189982989428274noreply@blogger.com0
